A
small gathering at a Sayang Pukhri resident in Imphal on Monday evening brought back
those memories of late 80s when the youth of the state were greatly influence
by heavy metal rock music. POST MARK, one among the pioneer Manipuri Heavy
metal band which was also known as “Death Guitars” was the talk of the town
until the tragic demise of its vocalist Abungcha Kshetrimayum during late 80s.
Disheartened
to the demise of its Vocalist the band member had all quit its passion for
music and went on to live life taking up some other odd profession at which
they never dreamt to have choose for. However, it was during these couple of
years that some heavy metal music lovers and fans of POST MARK spend all their
energy to revive the band with its original band members. The band's album -
'Stamp On You' way back in 1989 had led them to the forefront of the metal
scene. It was a crucial released as they fused the local Manipuri folk music
with the technical and melodic side of metal. Some of the famous number of them
are ‘Soar High', 'Metal Age' and 'It's So Funny'. PostMark started performing
and touring numerous live acts and festivals in and outside the state rendering
their original songs as well as cover tracks by thrash titans - Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer etc .
The
vacancy of vocalist was a big challenge for the band but their dedication has
enable to find one who could replace their lost friend. Rojit Achom - was the new pick for replacing the Lead
Vocals. And for the first time the team performed to a clique of selected
audiences at a Sayang Pukhri Mapal resident. Most of the invities are big fans
and close inmate of late Abungcha. After witnessing the performance, some of
the audience sheds tears on witnessing the coming back of the band. Moreover,
some murmurs about the similarity of the new lead vocal with that of late Abungcha
who had once make them famous among the Manipuri Heavy Metal lovers.
The
new team comprises of Rojit Achom as Lead Vocals, Ingocha Thingom as Guitarist, Uttam Thokchom as Guitarist, Deeparaj Oinam as Guitarist, Boicha Konjengbam
as Bass Guitarist and Bipin Sanjenbam as Drumers. Above these Johnny Laishram
also known as Jack Loah is the sound engineer. Surchand Wahengbam is the new
Manager of the band and Soraishram
Birjit is the assistant Manager.
